"Antiquus error: was the term that Christians [sic] polemicists used to describe ancient polytheism in its various forms. The book collects thirty papers published between 1996 and 2007 and five unpublished studies. Five sections are devoted, successively, to the historians of the fourth century AD: to Jerome as an historian, to the work of Ammianus Marcellinus, to the Historia Augusta and the poets Claudien and Rutilius Namatianus. The book focuses on the opposition between pagans and christians from 370 to 417. The discovery by Stéphane Ratti of the identity of the anonymous author of the Historia Augusta leads to a reevaluation of the opposition undertaken by the ancient religion's followers against the new ideas and the emperor Theodosius"--P.
